Code Compliance

The State Board of Education has issues with Lebanon Junior High School. Some of the reasons below:
  • There are long dead-end corridors in the building.  Students who take a wrong turn during an emergency could become trapped with no way out.
  • The windows cannot be opened enough to meet codes for emergency exits.
  • The wiring is inadequate.  Historically, staff members have relied on multiple extension cords but fire offices are no longer allowing this.
  • There are not enough classrooms.  Two temporary classrooms are set up in the parking lot.  Four other teachers "borrow" various rooms throughout the day.
  • Most classrooms are too small to meet state standards.
  • There is no computer room/lab.
  • The Special Education office is in an old custodial closet.  Special Educators must sometimes instruct students in makeshift stations in the hallway.
  • The nurse's office is a small converted closet.
  • The building has no cafeteria.
  • Plumbing in the science labs is contaminated from years of disposing chemicals.
  • The building is not energy efficient.
  • The family and consumer science room is less than one half the space the program requires.
